A Change of Heart

The swirling complexities of what it means to find a soulmate are explored in A Change of Heart. On the surface the lyrics seem to hint at falling out of love, but the true meaning is a reference to Jack's close relationships with his female friends; a playful expression of what might have been if he wasn’t gay. Musically, a 12/8 time signature creates a rolling, upbeat rhythm and chopped vocals are dreamy over a filtered instrumental bridge. The triplet drum groove and electric guitar solo from Martin Abbott give this big pop production a bluesy undertone that is rich with longing.

Lyrics

People say that we're soulmates
And I think that's true
There's no one like me and you

Cause no one laughs like we do
No one talks like we do
No one does like we do
There's no one like me and you

So if I ever have a change of heart
You'll be the first one I call
I'll be calling your name
If I ever have a change of heart
I'll be coming right back to
Running right back to you

People say that we're crazy
Have a different view
Cause no one understands me
The way that you do

Cause no one cares like you do (Like you do)
No one knows like you do
No one hurts like we do (Like we do)
There's no one like you

So if I ever have a change of heart (Ever have a change of heart)
You'll be the first one I call
I'll be calling your name
If I ever have a change of heart (Ever have a change of heart)
I'll be coming right back to
Running right back to you

Ever have a change of heart
Ever have a change of heart

I'll be coming right back to
Running right back to you

So if I ever have a change of heart (Ever have a change of heart)
You'll be the first one I call
I'll be calling your name
If I ever have a change of heart (Ever have a change of heart)
I'll be coming right back to
Running right back to you
(Ever have a change of heart)
You'll be the first one I call
I'll be calling your name
If I ever have a change of heart (Ever have a change of heart)
I'll be coming right back to
Running right back to you
